LOCAL WORKSHOPS / CULTURE IN PRACTICE
Culture shared around a table
Chinese pastry-making, paper cutting and red lanterns bring adults and children together to explore Chinese everyday life and festival traditions through making.
A shared table offers a place to begin. Dough in the kitchen, red paper and lanterns bring culture within reach: watch a demonstration, try it yourself, then work alongside someone else. These local workshops bring food, making and conversation into the same space.
A little dough a shared task
Around the kitchen counter, adults and children rolled dough, added fillings and folded the edges together. Watching someone nearby, then trying the movement themselves, made each step tangible. Flour-covered hands and shared demonstrations gave conversation a practical starting point.
Making festival traditions tangible
Red paper, scissors, brushes and lantern materials filled the table. Participants cut patterns and decorated lanterns, sometimes working alongside their children. Familiar festival colours became individual pieces of work, with each practical task opening another opportunity to talk.
Working alongside one another
Parents and children worked together, while people sharing a table helped one another. There was room to concentrate on a task or pause to see another approach. Food and craft brought the group together, and photographs and video preserved those moments of participation.
